The Circus

Life feels very full right now.  I have a feeling that I am not alone in that.  The funny thing is, that most of it has nothing to do with Christmas or the rest of the “holiday season”.  It is just full with the beautiful chaos that ensues when all of your children begin to have lives that move independently from your own.  Holding on to pieces my own independent life is something I hold dear.  So, that leaves the five motors of our family machine humming loudly at the moment.  We aren’t humming silent night.

Last night was a perfect example of the circus that I play in these days.  The day was scheduled so that my feet didn’t really touch down until my daughter was safely delivered from Nutcracker rehearsal at 9:00 PM.  For those who work in the corporate or teaching world, this is probably nothing extraordinary for you.  I am used to a day with more down time.  Some of it horribly boring, but still, time off of my feet.  So, I decided that I MUST commit to some yoga.  I did and it was perfectly serene for a moment or two.  It is amazing how the feeling of being sockless on my mat with a few deep breaths can transform me in an instant.  That is until….

The guy next to me sets up just a little too close.

He is late and doesn’t seem to notice or care.

Unable to ignore him as he is just inches from me, I see that he is shirtless.  Yes, he is one of those yogis.

He starts whispering chit chat to me.

I try to appease him with a smile and a nod, but he keeps talking.

When the teacher calls the next pose he actually says “Oh, I’m really good at this one”.

He must have felt a little arrogant because next he tells me “you’re really good at yoga!”

He farted during downward dog and started laughing.  Soon after, he lost his balance in Half Moon and nearly took me out.

In his defense, It must be hard to balance with a patch on your eye.  A penguin patch.

…And so my home practice yesterday perfectly reflected my day.  A circus.  A lot going on, people in and out, low grade humor, and a red headed clown.
