Looks Like Rain
Except from children’s book Super Taggers
“Things started to get a little unusual in June. But, before things got weird, they just got annoying. What were we annoyed with? The weather. We were all finishing up the last week of second grade and making plans to get the Super Taggers together for the summer. The weather was HORRIBLE. We woke up to gray clouds and drizzle, played underneath gray drizzling clouds at recess and went to bed with those same gray, dripping clouds. The weather was so crumby that we were starting to wonder if we would ever be able to move Super Tag from the tree tunnels of Evergreen Park to the open streets of our neighborhood. Even worse, Nicolas, who is always ready for a good slide in the mud, said that he was “thinking about taking a break from the game if the rain didn’t let up”. And Will said “me too”!! All of this when we were just getting into our third round of the fifth series of our season (don’t worry if you are confused, it is a very complicated system).
I refused to give up! I will NOT spend the summer locked up inside playing Lego Star Wars and Super Mario Galaxy. No, not me! I was just one week away from triple scoop ice cream cones, water balloon fights, barefoot basketball, and trips to Wild Willies Amusement Park. This year I was planning to ride the triple loop twister without barfing all over my Dallas Maverick’s tee shirt. I was going to do the Haunted West Hotel with my eyes wide open the entire time. This was supposed to be a time for celebration, fun, adventure and kid-rific amazingness. It was NOT a time for rain, clouds and gray skies. It was NOT a time for friends to take a break from each other.”
